Three decades ago, the landmark report “A Nation at Risk” shook up the education world by questioning the quality of U.S. education. In this video interview, Beatrice Birman, an Institute Fellow at the American Institutes for Research (AIR), talks about the report’s lasting legacy on education policy and reform.
Birman examines how the report lay the groundwork for raising standards and expectations for students and increasing the role of federal programs and policies in schools. Birman is an expert in federal education policy, programs for students placed at risk, school reform and teachers’ professional development. She was one of seven education experts to explore the report’s legacy and where education reform is today in this commentary piece: http://www.air.org/reports-products/index.cfm?fa=viewContent&content_id=2891
