Education reform in 13MP vital for Malaysia’s economic evolution, says Rafizi

Malaysia’s current economic framework lacks the complexity needed to achieve developed nation status, resulting in low value creation and suppressed wages, says former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli.

Debating the 13th Malaysia Plan in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Aug 4), Rafizi (PH–Pandan) said the education system fails to produce a skilled workforce for a high-value economy.

This, he noted, was why the 13MP—drafted during his tenure—proposed mandatory early childhood education starting at age five.

Reed Pushes for Passage of Major K-12 Education Reform Bill

Senator Reed took to the Senate floor Tuesday to discuss his support for the Every Student Succeeds Act, a major overhaul of federal education law which reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 and aims to fix the broken Bush-era No Child Left Behind (NCLB) education law that was adopted nearly fourteen years ago. The bipartisan bill includes a several key provisions written by Senator Reed to improve K-12 education in the United States.

Roy Romer chairs Strong American Schools, a nonpartisan campaign promoting sound education policies for all Americans.

Romer directs the “ED in ’08” campaign, a nonpartisan public awareness and action campaign to raise education to one of the country’s top domestic priorities and challenge the 2008 presidential candidates to begin a dialogue about how they will improve American schools. He was the 39th Governor of Colorado, serving from 1986 to 1998, and from 2001 to 2006 he served as superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Texas teachers came to the Capitol to meet with Texas legislators and staff during the 88th Legislative Session as part of Raise Your Hand Texas’ Teacher Advocacy Days. A total of 75 teachers from regions across the state traveled to Austin to visit with Texas lawmakers and share their expertise while advocating for a profession in crisis. We are committed to providing opportunities for educators to engage in advocacy and to amplify their voices in the policy arena. Together, we can create a brighter future for Texas students and teachers alike.
