Turning schools into hotbeds for global change-reforming education | Dominic Traynor | TEDxNorwichED

February 1, 2025 By admin

How is plastic packaging acceptable in today’s world? How is it possible that so many people don’t vote? How did obesity become an epidemic? There is only one solution to these kinds of issues and adults are the least likely to make it happen. The solution to all these issues can be found in our classrooms.
A former primary school teacher, Dominic started LitFilmFest in 2016 which partners with organisations like Houses Of Parliament, the British Film Institute, YouTube Kids and Change.org. Its goal is to empower primary pupils to shape their future through collaborative writing & video projects linked to the National Curriculum for English.

He has trained over 10,000 primary teachers on combining traditional literacy and digital skills through his education social enterprise, A Tale Unfolds. In a research project with UCL Institute Of Education, this traditional plus digital approach improved literacy by 2.5 times the average rate of progress.

Although he is happiest in the sea, Dominic has a burning passion for inspiring the YouTube generation to make the world a better place. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

Educating the Educated: Education Reform from a Student | Angie Bu | TEDxYouth@ChocolateAve

June 14, 2024 By admin

As a student, Angie Bu has her own take on the idea of education reform. In her brutally honest, funny, and ambitious talk, she explores better ways to supply the best education possible to her and students around the world. Angie’s obsession for art began the moment she reached for a pen at the airport as a baby. Ever since then, she has made a career out of the arts as a digital artist and programmer. She believes they are baby steps to improving the world with art of all kinds, not just paintings and sculptures. Today’s economy made the right choice to value innovation, and education needs to catch up.

Outside of being an artist, Angie is a track athlete at school. She believes it is easier to have a clear mind with a healthy body. Art doesn’t have to be purely aesthetic; they can be useful in many facets of life: I created the digital taste system Gastronaut and exercise-powered bracelet Rotacel to be released to the public later this year. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
