The Education System in America
The education system in America is unique and different than many other countries. For instance, in America, many people that go to college do so because they want a career that pays a lot of money. While it is true that others go to college because they want to work in nonprofits or even education that is not the large percentage. For instance, if you took a survey of students going to prestigious universities in America and asked what they were hoping to achieve upon graduation, most would not say nonprofits. They go to elite colleges because they want something in return for their hard work.
On the other hand if you look at some other countries that have wonderful education systems such as Singapore and Finland teaching in these countries is something that many talented people seek after and it is a highly sought after profession. One educational system is not better than the other, but a different perspective that makes the United States education system different than countries that have values that are different. Therefore, it is important to realize when heading to college that if you decide to move to another country than the States, you might want look at what other countries value in terms of careers before you decide on your education.
The history of the education system in America goes back to the colonial period, but of course, at this time girls and boys were taught very differently, and the Bible was the center of education. Moreover, families that were poor did not get upper education for their children, only the rich children were entitled to an education at the time, which meant there was a distinctive different in class, much more so than today in America. During the 19th and 20th century in America, the education system progressed quite a bit with the formation of education for everyone regardless of race or sex, which was a huge step in America.
Today, of course, anyone that wants an education can have one regardless of being rich or poor because the government has instilled low-interest student loans, grants, and scholarships, which makes education possible for everyone. Education is vital in America in order to truly get ahead and advance if one chooses to work and raise a family, which is the typical American dream. The drawback of course, is that education continues to increase in the United States, making it very expensive and many students are leaving school highly in debt and then not making the money needed to pay student loans.
Lastly, the education system in America does reward those that get their college degrees and then go on to teach secondary education by forgiving much of their student loans, which makes the educational field more attractive for those going to college.
